CARRIE DUGOVIC

Watercolor and Ceramic Artist

Artist Bio:
After a rewarding 38 year career in Information Technology in the Air Force and at a public university, I decided it was time to try something new and completely different. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and a Master of Business Administration degree, art was definitely not the main focus of my studies. However, in my spare time I enjoyed photography, ceramics, hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, bird watching and all other forms of immersing myself in nature. When I retired, I had the opportunity to embrace these activities full time. I was interested in using watercolor techniques with underglazes on my pottery, so I enrolled in lessons and found that I loved painting with watercolor on paper.  My outdoor adventures supply me with beautiful reference photos to paint on both paper and clay.

Artist Statement:
I’ve been told that watercolor is a challenging medium to work with, yet I find it mesmerizing. Starting with a blank piece of paper, anticipation builds as the translucent layers emerge. The luscious mix of colors combine to create on paper the images that nature presents, infinitely changing moment by moment, invoking our emotional response and wonder. Patience is both difficult and welcome to slow down and observe as the layers dry. My favorite subjects to paint are ones with expressive eyes. To capture the essence of a living creature brings me great joy.
