Artist Statement and Bio
“I am an artist… a painter. I’m not here to show people what they can already see, but rather to give them a visual experience they would otherwise never have. I’m here to interpret and preserve the moments that otherwise would have been at least forgotten if even ever known.”
I find inspiration in nature and on the road; photographing birds and wildlife, paddling and hiking into protected wildlands, capturing people at work and play interspersed with the beautiful scenery in Northeast Washington. I work the stories, colors and forms captured with my camera into my paintings in impressionistic and abstract ways. I currently live in Chewelah, WA, and am an active member of the Spokane Watercolor Society. I regularly show and sell my work in local galleries and competitions. I have won several awards in our National shows and have earned Signature status within SWS. Formerly a dental hygienist, I now fill my days with outdoor pursuits, gardening, and making sense of it all in the studio. Plein air painting, a newly discovered passion, has become a favorite way to paint and works out beautifully with being on the go. ~Gail |
