JOHN KIRKLAND, SWS

Born to draw, paint and make things 82 years ago, I was helped along with a couple of years at Salt Lake Community College, enrolled their commercial art program. Those 2 years spent would eventually land me in the sign painting business, where one learns to paint about anything with everything.

Now retired, (sort of), I have the luxury of time to paint what I want, with what I want, which is mostly watercolor –
the magic medium.

“With watercolors, let the wildcat run, use a larger brush, dare to wet the paper and use the best materials. Look for interesting shapes, play of light, or just a mood. Eastern WA provides numerous visual opportunities for painting; plenty of farms and buildings along with many waterscapes and,
oh, those clouds over the Palouse.”
-John Kirkland, Asotin, WA
