ARTIST BIO: Growing up in Illinois, I always thought of myself as an artist. I loved to draw and was fortunate to receive valuable mentoring from an uncle who was a professional artist and teacher. At about age twenty, I did what I thought was expected of me, and entered the world of full-time work (with a bachelor’s degree in accounting along the way), setting aside art for the next thirty-five years or so. Finally, in retirement, I have been able to reconnect with art.
ARTIST STATEMENT: I took up watercolor because I realized the art I appreciated most was almost always watercolor paintings. So far, I have been working to develop the technical skills to paint the many, varied subjects I am drawn to. Those subjects include scenes from the Oregon coast, from my own backyard, local flora and fauna – whatever catches my eye. I strive for a painting style that is fresh and simple.
