Artist Statement I am a landscape painter driven by the dynamics of color. I fell in love with the Fauvists and their abstract shapes of color many years ago. My approach is to see the unique shapes, patterns and relationships. I want to express the sense of place and share my emotional response to that place. Five years ago I decided to focus specifically on watercolor painting because of the challenge of the medium. Learning to manipulate color pigment with the element of water is fascinating, ever challenging and thrilling. As I continue to grow as a painter I’ve transitioned into plein air work and this has added a new aspect to the process of painting. Now I’m truly involved in the immediate environment of sun, wind, heat, cold.
Artist Bio Pat is a Seattle native who was transplanted to Eastern Washington 10 years ago. She has a degree in landscape architecture and was a Project Manager working in the difficult high end residential construction industry. From a young age, she has always been involved in art, but it was the medium of watercolor painting that combined her love for art, environment and design. Her first water classes were at the local art store, and later followed with workshops from local and internationally recognized painters.
