Connie Ashby
Bio
It’s been a long journey, and many decades, but I’m finally able to do what I’ve always wanted to do, ART! I’ve enjoyed the challenges of different mediums, pastels, acrylics, graphite & charcoal pencils, but the most enjoyable has been watercolors. I’ve taken classes from several different instructors, most have been helpful with techniques, ideas & inspirations, and they have all helped me continue to grow as an artist. I have also had a couple of instructors who were less than helpful, and who I would not recommend. My overall philosophy is that “We learn from everyone,” not just instructors, but also other students, young or ‘older,’ like myself! LOL! My classes, and other art students keep me inspired and challenged to continue to develop as an artist. I love taking on the challenge of each new painting, trying not to let the difficulty overwhelm me, but rather letting the process take its course, focusing on each step, and taking my time. I have discovered that my style is more detailed, whether it be a portrait of a person, animal, castle, etc., rather than the quick & loose style or interpretive piece that other artists enjoy. All in all, I feel very grateful, now that I’m retired, to have the time to pursue my passion for art. I encourage anyone who has this same passion to follow their heart, and do what you love!
