Artist Statement
I paint exclusively in watercolor and have done so for the past 18 years. My watercolor training has been centered on creating a unique style to express emotions from a life full of experiences. In the classroom I focus on learning to use the available watercolor tools. When I'm painting I focus on creating images to evoke emotions that are difficult or impossible to capture through other means. Art can communicate the complexities science cannot explain (Examples include: Where hope for a better future comes from, tears of happiness/sadness and fear of the unknown). One of the hardest parts of watercolor painting is envisioning where you want to take the viewer. Transporting the viewer to that place is what separates artists and makes their art unique. Watercolor art is significantly underappreciated because historically it has been fugitive and because the materials have been less expensive than those used to create oil paintings. One of the great strengths of watercolor painting is that it allows the artist to produce contrast and brightness with smooth variation and transition not possible with other mediums. I work to make my art unique. I want it to be complex in construction and brightly presenting. My hope is that the viewer enjoys it as much as I enjoy creating it.
