I'm currently the art teacher at Joel E. Ferris High School, Spokane, WA where I began teaching in 1992. Artist Statement
My watercolor paintings include local scenery as well as scenery from my travels to Europe and Africa. I'm drawn to the beauty of nature and the people and experiences that identify location. I'm an avid gardener and gourmet cook expanding to people and food in my imagery. Like the Impressionists, I chase the light. Bold, clean color excites me. When I'm painting, I escape to a world of shapes, color, value, and especially texture. I am intrigued by the play of dramatic lighting and movement. Keeping it fresh is always on my mind. I challenge myself to find new ways to let the paint, paint itself. I support that magic by painting the negative space. I paint in both watercolor and acrylic. I like to build layers of texture with my acrylic paintings that push me to loosen up and get fresh results. My work can be seen at Spokane Watercolor Society juried and member shows.
