Kim Gardell
Bio
Encouraged to develop artistic abilities from a young age, I earned a degree in art and have freelanced as a graphic designer while being a full-time mom for most of my career. I started watercolor painting as an antidote for too much time in front of a computer. As a member of the Spokane Watercolor Society, I enjoy meeting fellow watercolor painters, improving my skills through taking classes, and painting together with other artists.
Artist Statement
Painting the vivid details, vibrant color and dramatic contrasts, capturing the light and shadow, hue and shade, shape and form I see in the created world around me is constantly engaging. I am fascinated and amazed that brushing pigment and water on a piece of paper can reflect the incredible beauty and complexity of nature. Studying skills and techniques, designing compositions, facing fears, finding my voice, sharing with others, practicing and persevering— all these facets of learning and improving as an artist— make watercolor painting both challenging and satisfying and increase my love for this incredible medium.
